LITTLE THINGS.
Dear loved one,
In our everyday life, we over time, come to the reality of the fact that the big things we see is only a combination of small things or small things make up big things. Just as the famous quote goes “little drops of water, makes a mighty ocean”, it could also be translated into “a mighty ocean is only made up of little and tiny drops of water”.
The natural scientist would refer to these little things, as molecules. These are the smallest unit of a chemical compound that can take part in a chemical reaction. However, these molecules are also made up of even smaller particles known as atom, which is the smallest particle of a chemical element that can take part in a chemical reaction.
Just as we’ve seen that these little things possess the capacity and ability to make up components and the whole at large, they also possess the capacity, ability and power to bring down big and mighty things. It was in these context that the wise King Solomon referred to them as “little foxes” when he said “Take us the foxes, the little foxes that spoil the vines: for our vines have tender grapes”- Song of Solomon, 2:15(kjv). Notice, he didn’t say the wild beasts of the field or the birds of the air, rather he said that “the little foxes”, knowing with all wisdom that it’s the little things that count the most.
Without much digression, what we’re trying to establish is the fact that the little things we often tend to overlook are the most important things in life and I’m sure that at this juncture, we would be curious to know what these little things are. Little things are not concisely defined things but could come in different forms.
In our relationship with the Father, the little things could be involving Him in our everyday affair, entrusting Him with our decisions, however small or minute it may seem. Little things such as how we use our tongue.. James 3:5a; “Even so the tongue is a little member… verse 6 says “And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the whole course of nature; and it set on fire of hell”. This basically just tells us that, the tongue, however small and unnoticeable it may appear in the body, actually has the capacity to set the whole body on fire..the comparison might seem kind of unimaginable because, of course, we have big body members like our legs,(not applicable to brief people), our thighs but then the small member like the tongue could actually set these body parts on fire, isn’t that amazing…
In our relationship with people, little things could be an act of kindness, it could be doing the right things at the right time, little things could be saying the right words to people, with an understanding of how powerful the tongue is, and how important our words could be, it could be that one act of forgiveness, it could be that one act of being there when needed, it could be that one word of comfort…little things are often the ones ignored the most, we find out that some relationships crumble, not because of the things that were done but because of the things that were not done and most of the things that aren’t always done are regarded as this our “Little Things” which in the long run aren’t anywhere near little because little things conceive bigger things.
Dear beloved, let us try even beyond our capacity, {because we have grace}, to build on little things, knowing that small things grow big, and little things conceive big things. The little things we do go a long way in our love walk with the Father and in our relationship with the brethren, at our place of work, in our class, and in our society at large. The little things we do can make a way for us, can make our relationships better and pave the way for even better things, while the little things we ignore can mar or spoil everything we’ve worked hard to get. Remember, it’s the little foxes that spoils or rather destroys the vines.
